The demand of US manufactured tiles is increasing day by day. Between 2009 and 2016, US ceramic tile consumption jumped from 1,858,952,000 square feet to 2,896,977,000 square feet – an increase of 56%. Currently, the USA is the 7th largest consumer of tile in the world, while only being the 16th largest producer, so there is a big gap between supply and demand. The cost of importing, particularly from Italy, has increased over the past few years due largely to the difference between the USD and EUR exchange rates. Finally, due to the US construction boom, getting the tile from product to market quickly has become increasingly important, yet shipping from Italy can take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks.
These and other factors are pushing the major Italian tiles manufacturers open facilities in the United States – primarily in the clay rich areas of Tennessee and Kentucky.
With all of these factors in mind, two leading Italian tile companies, Tecnoceramica Maranello and Uptiles, came together in 2014 to form TecnoTiles, Inc. They were joined in 2016 by the addition of Gimax Proposte Ceramiche.
The mission of TecnoTiles is to serve the United States Tile Producers by offering the services of bullnose, coping, cut tiles, and mosaics. At this time, the number of competitors in this market is still low.
